Don’t you want to go to work feeling like this EVERYDAY?
I recently was hired by someone to lead a staff meeting at an Early Childhood Center. The topic was JOY. This director was ready to create an atmosphere of POSITIVE ENERGY and JOY that oozed from the walls of this early childhood center. She wanted everyone in her valley to know that this place, where they dropped off their young children at, was filled with JOY.
You are probably thinking that kids tend to just live in JOY often so of course it is JOYFUL. That is true for the most part. But what about the staff members?
Do they always? Think about your office or place of work. Do people LIVE IN THE SPACE OF JOY DAILY? If I were to bet I would say they don’t.
According to an article in Forbes Magazine in 2018, 53% of Americans are unhappy at work.* HOLY COW! More than half!!! That is a lot! How many people do you know that are unhappy at work?
- They may dread every single day.
- They hate going to work.
- you haven’t seen them smile in ages.
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?!
It is up to us to make our life the best we can.
It is up to us to intentionally be filled with JOY no matter how much we hate our current job, circumstances etc.
In this training I led at this early childhood education center, we started with each person individually.
We had to find a way to bring JOY into their life from when their alarm woke them up to before they stepped foot in their workplace.
We reflected on routines in the morning, identified what were JOY CREATORs and what were JOY CRUSHERS.
After, we had to add in an activity in the mornings before work that would uplift us and FILL us with JOY. I’m talking about the JOY that you can FEEL filling your body up. The JOY that makes your heart pound, gives you goosebumps, makes you smile ear to ear. That is what I am talking about!!! We can feel that EVERY SINGLE MORNING if we want to.
The next step was to figure out what they could do as a team that is a JOY CREATOR. Something that they can do daily for just a minute or two that fills them up with the sensation of JOY.
We didn’t have a lot of time to develop this and will revisit it soon but we made a start.
At the end everyone had to do a quick share on what they will implement at home. Here are a few ideas:
- Wake up 15 minutes earlier because when I’m rushed I get frustrated.
- Ask my husband to join me for the morning walks I take with my dog. This is a good time for us to connect.
- Not being so hard on myself.
- Jam sessions in the car with a favorite song.
