HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Yes, I got this blog off a little late..BUT it’s only the 2nd week in JANUARY!
Here we are! A NEW YEAR, a NEW DECADE!
A new year is the ability to start over. To REFLECT on what life brought you the year before and ASPIRE and GOAL SET for the next.
Do you have any TRADITIONS you partake in for the new year?
Each year my kids and I update our VISION BOARDS. We take it off the walls, reflect on what we put on it, celebrate what was accomplished and note what wasn’t. Then we go to work. We write a list of things we want to aspire for the next year, search up pictures, print them out and paste them on. Sometimes we take some things from the year before that weren’t accomplished. Then we proudly hang them in our rooms so we see them EVERY SINGLE DAY!
Often we do this on Jan. 1, but this year we haven’t done them yet AND it is NEVER TOO LATE!
My husband and I like to reflect on the things that brought us JOY and HAPPINESS in the year we are exiting. Often as humans, we focus on the negative things that happened and really don’t take the time to celebrate all the BEAUTY, JOY, and LOVE. When we do focus on these WONDERFUL EMOTIONS, it FILLS our HEARTS up with LOVE and JOY.
Our next step is to write down what we ASPIRE for the new year. We list personal, professional, family, spiritual, health, and relationship items. This year we opened up this part to our children. At dinner we had them list all the things they could remember that brought them JOY in 2019. Then we had them list things they wanted to do in 2020 that would bring them JOY. My husband and I added to this list as well.
Here are a few things from the list:
- More family walks
- Game nights
- Go out for breakfast occasionally
- Hosting more friend gatherings
And many more. Some are very specific to one individual and some are specific to our family. This list is placed on our workstation so we can see it all the time and it can be added to.
Taking this time is ESSENTIAL for ourselves, our relationships and our families. We can ASPIRE and ACHIEVE anything we want. It’s just a matter of what we do to make it happen.
Teaching our children these strategies now will prepare them for their future. Reflecting is essential and we learn from everything we do whether we achieve something or fail at it. It makes us STRONGER, BETTER, and more CAPABLE.
